How do I get there?

There are six International airports with regularly scheduled flights from several US Cities.  Below are the four closest, with approximate times by car or taxi to our property.

  • Puerto Plata - Gregorio Luperón International Airport (POP): Approximately 15 minutes

  • Santiago - Cibao International Airport (STI): Approximately 90 minutes

  • Samana - Samaná El Catey International Airport (AZS) Approximately 2 hours

  • Santo Domingo - Las Américas International Airport (SDQ): Approximately 3 hours

Do I need a passport or special visa?

A valid passport is required to enter the Dominican Republic.  No special visa is required.  You will pay a $10 USD visitor visa, good for 30 days, upon arrival at the airport.

Can I drink the water?

As with many areas not located in North America or Europe, you shouldn’t drink the tap water.  Purified water is provided in the condo and all restaurants and bars offer bottled water and use purified water for ice cubes, even on the beach and the road-side vendors.  You should have no issues brushing your teeth, showering, or cleaning food with the tap water.

Is there maid service?

Yes, unlike most condo rentals, maid service is included and provided each day except Sunday.

Is tipping Required for the maid service?

No, tipping our housekeeping staff is not required, but if you fel you have received exceptional service, a tip is certainly apreciated.

Is there a chef?

Each condo has a modern, fully-equipped kitchen and gas BBQ grill.  All appliances, equipment, and utensils you may need are provided.  We can provide a personal chef to cook one, several, or all your meals.  Send us an email with your request to info@CoolDRProperty.com and we will discuss your options.

Are there American channels on the TV?

Yes! Most of your favorite US channels are available in English, such as:  ESPN, CNN, CNBC, ABC, NBC, CBS, HBO, SHO, etc.  There are also channels in Spanish and German.

Is there wifi?

Yes, all condos have their own wifi modem and router.  The password is provided upon check-in.

Is the area safe?

Absolutely!  Hispaniola Beach is an upscale gated community with 24-hour security.  You can walk safely and comfortably in and around the area and into the town of Sosua.  When outside of the community, as with anywhere, you should be mindful of your surroundings, especially at night.

Do I need to change dollars to pesos?

Almost every establishment and taxi driver will accept US Dollars, but you are much better off using pesos when paying for things.  There are several banks within walking distance that will safely change your dollars to pesos.  You can also use most International debit cards in any of the banks’ ATM machines.  They will dispense pesos at the current exchange rate.  Banks and ATM’s are also located at most airports.  You are better off not using the “Exchange Houses”, stick with the regular banks.  We suggest you only change enough pesos for a few days and carry only what you’ll need for the day.  A safe is provided in the condo to secure your valuables.

How do I get around?

One of the great advantages of our condos at Hispaniola Beach is the location.  There are dozens of restaurants, bars, cafes, and markets within a few minutes walk.  The downtown area is only a few minutes further.  If you don’t feel like walking, or you want to venture further out, you can take taxis or moto-conchos (motorcycle taxis).  There is also a public transport system that includes “carritos” (small 4 door cars like Toyota Carollas), and Guaguas (small buses and vans) that travel the main road.  If you'd like to go to Santiago or Santo Domingo, there are two major bus companies with large, comfortable, modern buses.  Going to Santiago costs approximately $5.00USD and Santo Domingo costs aprroximately $10.00 USD.  The two bus stations are on the main highway near the center of Sosua.  You can check their websites for more information (in Spanish) at: Caribe Tours and Metro Tours

What kind of food is available?

You name it and you’ll likely find it in Sosua and Cabarete, about 10 miles to the east.  Of course Dominican food is available everywhere, but you’ll also find great Italian, French, American, German, British, Chinese, Sushi…just to name a few!

What’s the dress code in the bars and restaurants?

Casual!  You can wear shorts, t-shirts, and flip flops in every store, restaurant, and bar in the area.  However, if you like to dress up a bit you certainly won’t feel out of place, especially in the evenings.
